Teens and Social Media

Social media has been rising to popularity these days. People are using it for sharing their memories and moments. People at just the age of 12 can easily access social media. Not many people agree that people of such a young age should be interacting using social media. Now we will see the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

In the advantages, social media can give the public more and fast information because it’s spreading online. It can be a study forum too, so it can provide the public with an education that may not have been taught in school. Beside it, social media can be a place for expanding relations with other people. From that, they can know many people and can share some thoughts with them on social media without needing a meeting if both of them cannot do so. Then, teens can have their own platform for their work like, painting, editing, covering songs, and etc. 

Despite having many advantages, there are consequences from it. If it’s not used properly, it could lead to private information being leaked. That’s usually why hackers and predators targets children or teens. Teens usually share everything on social media, the oversharing habit could lead them into being a target of cyberbullying. Also, with many influences and models appearing in social media, it sets a certain beauty standard that teens believe they should follow. This could lead into many mental illnesses that come from teens trying the best to be perfect but not doing it the right way (consult a doctor, exercise properly, eat healthy food, etc.).

Therefore, social media has its own good side and bad side. Not every person or platform that we saw on social media had good influences and not all of them are bad too. As a social media user, we need to be more careful and wise when using it, take its positive and dump the negative.
